Hello, all Numerical Recipes users!

We've had many requests over the years for a Numerical Recipes bulletin board, or forum, and we've decided to give it a try. We hope that Numerical Recipes users will be able to help each other -- and that this will also be an efficient way for the Numerical Recipes authors (Press, Teukolsky, Vetterling, and Flannery) to provide information and assistance.

Here are the simple rules of the road:

1. No flaming! If you want to complain about something, you can do so -- but keep it civil and professional. No use of words unsuitable for children: we are NOT an adult site!

2. Anyone can browse in the forum, but you have to be registered to post replies. Registration is simple and free.

3. Stick to subjects within the scope of the forum, that is, Numerical Recipes, numerical methods, and scientific computing.

4. Please, in the spirit of community, try to give more than you get. Be generous in answering other people's queries, even when they seem to be beginners in the art.

That's it! If we succeed, we will be able to build a resource of significant usefulness. If we fail -- if people don't follow the rules -- we will have to discontinue the experiment.

Indeed the rules are quite motivating every person to make a contribution to the objectives of the NRforum.If for example a professional in java has tried to do the program in java fromC++
basing on NR,then the same might be finalised by trial and error method to make the java code executable.And if this is done as early as possible then the task at hand for further scope on the objectives of NRFORUM become lessened.

A request for the member concernd may be made by the board so as to get the task completed

How strict is this forum against linking to other sites?

I notice some routines in NR come from, say, the EISPACK libraries. So if I refer people directly to the appropriate EISPACK routine to save a user a lot of typing, would that be considered recommending competition to NR and, therefore, discouraged?

Perfectly OK to link to other sites, as long as they are legal (e.g., not warez). EISPACK is public domain and should be fine. Other readers will be able to decide for themselves whether it meets their needs.

Ahh, I can write here too!!!

my questions are 1) how to start a new thread -- Posting..
and 2) how do i use a demo from NR .. in fortran.. I am using microsoft visual f32 (older version).. and the demo programs are
*.dem.. so i need to change it to fortran to compile. I am trying the shooting demo out in ch 16 (i know i should walk before i can run). but the compiler complains about missing things.. i put in the subs into a folder they would be recognized , etc.. still no luck..
