HOW TO REPORT BUGS

We really WANT to know about bugs in Numerical Recipes. But please be aware that most bugs reported to us are in one of two categories:

  1. User errors or misunderstandings (typically from NOT READING THE BOOK!)
  2. Old bugs, LONG AGO fixed and NOT PRESENT in the current release.
Help us to help you, by reporting to us only bugs that you are really quite sure are not in either of the above categories.

Sorry, but we are no longer interested in bug reports on First Edition routines. (First Edition books have bright yellow dust jackets; Second Edition books have red or blue dust jackets.)

Here is how to help us:

1. Find out what is the current release of Numerical Recipes by looking at the Current Version page.

2. Be sure that your bug is present in this current release. One way to do this is to buy a new copy of the latest version of Numerical Recipes. A cheaper way is to use the free text patch files that are accessible from the Upgrade page. These will upgrade any Second Edition release to the current one, or you can use your web browser to persue the current and earlier version .txt text patch upgrade files, looking for any correction to your routine(s) of interest. (Search the relevant .txt patch files for the routine name.)

3. Document your bug and send it to us through our web contact page or by mail or fax to Numerical Recipes Software. See our contact information for addresses, etc.

4. Please be patient. Other than a brief acknowledgment, you may not hear back from us for a very long time. We operate in information collecting mode for long periods between new releases. Rest assured, however, that your bug will get looked at in due course and will, if validated, get fixed in a subsequent release.

Thanks for your help! Numerical Recipes is, in a very real sense, a community project and has benefited greatly from user input.
